Amazing Anniversary at National Trust Charlecote Park

The morning of our 15th Wedding Anniversary started with heavy rain and an hour into our drive to National Trust Charlecote Park near Stratford Upon Avon it was still raining.

We were feeling optimistic that the weather would improve despite the forecast. Fortunatly plans were very loose and our main aim was to obviously enjoy each others company so the weather didn’t matter too much (although dry is obviously nicer)

Shortly before arriving at the car park the grey clouds started to depart and blue sky was quickly making an appearance.

Walking along the long driveway we were greeted by a magnificent gatehouse with beautiful and ornate turrets, balustrades and carving. As you can see the weather really had improved and the billowy white clouds were looking amazing.

Oak trees are just starting to come into leaf and so alive with their acidy green colour, so vibrant and full of Spring.

A short little meander around the outskirts of the property, what a magnificent view of the house silhouetted against the sky.

Not to be missed is the woodland garden, how dainty are these Dodecatheon Meadia Album, (White Flowered American Cowslip)

Exciting the woodland brought us to the Orangery Restaurant. Time for a relaxing cup of tea/coffee and obligatory slice of National Trust cake! The Orangery entrance was surrounded by a Rainbow of Tulips all swaying in the breeze.

I chose an absolutely gorgeous and moist Toffee cake, my husband had Caramel Shortcake which was just as delicious.

The Spring Tulips in the Parterre garden looked absolutely stunning in their Rainbow colours

We sat for quite some time in the Parterre garden with the River Avon behind us, Tulips in front and fabulous bright blue sky with big cotton wool clouds above, our view:

The sounds of Spring were all around, Bees buzzing in the borders and Swallows swooping and chattering along the river. It really was an idyllic spot to relax.

It was lovely to see the house interior in a different light with the shutters closed, it seemed to give the house a real sence of spirit and feel how illuminated the rooms must have been all those years ago.

The Charlecote Deer seem to be very inquisitive of people and have just started to loose their Antlers, we wondered if this hurts them at all? Also wondered whether it makes their heads feel lopsided as surely this makes the Deer off balance only having one Antler?…oh so many questions and a little silliness as we walked like a one Antlered Deer!

The Coachhouse was fascinating, loved the cartwheel shadows on the stone floor.

Some staff were busy doing some conservation in action, which was really interesting

A quick glance at the horse chains on the wall and I thought it read HAPPY
